Music Recital Hall

  • Flutist Meerenai Shim and pianist Anne Rainwater present standards from the flute and piano repertoire that are not the usual suspects. Featuring composers Lili Boulanger, Margaret Bonds, and Chiquinha Gonzaga.

  • Lande and Miller have studied, performed and taught together for 20 years; they think and play with like minds. Their musical sound is not essentially jazz, since the fragments of melodic lines which provide the stepping- stones (as it were) along whose musical path the performance proceeds are more likely to remind the listener of, say, Schoenberg, Stockhausen or Cecil Taylor than Ellington, Monk or Miles Davis. But the Lande-Miller duos’s spirit and improvisations, based on charts, are definitely jazz. They play long suite-like works, weaving their sounds together through 20 to 30 minutes of playing.  ...It’s weird and wonderful piano stuff, particularly in tandem with Miler’s alto flute or soprano sax expressions. Meters, rhythms, key signatures, gorgeous melodies (and chords) and spicy dissonances come and go, with Lande and Miller shifting the lead when the mood suits, modal style.

  • Quinteto Latino, the San Francisco Bay Area wind quintet, focuses on issues pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion in classical music by championing works of Latine composers.

  • Flamenco is an art form commonly associated with the "Gitano" people of Southern Spain. SCU professor and dancer Christina Zanfagna will be joined by renowned local flamenco artists to showcase this dynamic tradition.

  • Jim's trio will be presenting new, original material off his upcoming release "Breaking Through Gently".

  • The Kombos Collective presents the CD release concert for Uproot, a powerful program of Greek songs from Asia Minor. In collaboration with rembetiko interpreter Katerina Clambaneva, the ensemble performs modern arrangements of Greek music from the region, celebrating this vibrant musical heritage and capturing the refugee experience through song. Uproot weaves histories and personal stories throughout, generating a universal dialogue about the impact of forced migration and building a bridge to the experience of modern-day refugees.

  • Sleight Ensemble is a group of composer/performers who compose, commission, and present new and civically-engaged music in the San Francisco Bay Area. They were founded in 2015 as a vehicle to perform the work of developing composers in the Bay Area—specifically composers whose work exists at the intersection of improvisation, experimentation, and traditional through-composed music.

  • Experience the authenticity and originality of SHENSduo (申思琵琶), a California Bay Area-based pipa duo featuring Shenshen Zhang and Sophia Shen. Enjoy their captivating, genre-blending new works at their U.S. premiere concert.
