Through colorful, evocative compositions, artist Kara Maria asks us to consider humankinds’ effect on other animal species. In the exhibition Precious and Precarious: Life on the Edge of Extinction, we encounter species whose native habitats range from present-day California to the Arctic, and who are either endangered or extinct due to the actions of humans.

Santa Clara University undergraduate students enrolled in several studio art courses from the Department of Art and Art History are creating works in response to Maria’s exhibition that will also be on view at the de Saisset Museum in conjunction with this exhibition.
